QMB interface > Server and policy menu > SQL server page |
When an SQL server is selected in the list, its details will be shown in the right part of the window.
SQL server information page |
The top part of the page contains the following commands:
Refresh – the command establishes a connection with the SQL server and completely updates the general information section.
Connection settings – opens a form that allows you to change the SQL server connection settings.
General information
Status – SQL server status
Version – SQL server version and edition
Backup compression – a switch controlling the Compression of backups by default option (the 'backup compression default' parameter) on the SQL server. If the SQL server does not support compression, Not supported will be shown instead of the switch.
There are some limitations for compressed backup files. For example, a backup file cannot contain compressed and non-compressed sets of backup copies. Also, you should bear in mind that you won’t be able to restore a compressed backup copy on an SQL server that doesn’t support backup compression, such as SQL Express, for example. More details can be found in MSDN. |
License – displays information about the QMB license installed on the server and its date of expiry. Depending on the license status, an Activate/Deactivate link will be available in the right part of the column. Clicking on this link will open the activation or deactivation wizard.
QMB Jobs execution statistics for today
Executed total – the number of QMB Jobs executed today
Completed with errors – the number of QMB Jobs completed with errors today
Time of last error – date and time of the last error today
Last QMB Job error – a link with the name of the last QMB Job completed with an error. Clicking the link will open a form with the results of QMB Job execution.
Disk information
The section contains information about SQL server disks and allows you to configure email notifications that the program will send when the free disk space drops below the set threshold. The header of the section shows the date and time of the last disk space update.
The program checks free disk space on schedule (once every 10 minutes by default). If necessary, the schedule can be edited on the General tab in program settings. |
To enable email notifications sent when the free disk space drops beyond a user-defined threshold, enable the Notify when the threshold is reached option and set the necessary percent value. When the free disk space on the SQL server drops below the threshold, an email sent to the email address specified in the settings.
The threshold value is determined experimentally. For a disk used for database backups, the threshold value can be set to be equal or greater to the combined size of all databases stored with a storage depth defined in the storage policy plus 20% on top.
To avoid sending too many emails, the program sends only one notification a day! |
